Progress report C4, C5 and D3 actions

AUGUST 2016

We completed the collection of from the installation of Pontese refuge. Samples were sent to the ISE-CNR Pallanza laboratory. The collection of the final implant in the Nivolet area will be started and completed as soon as water will be present in the area.

JULY 2016

First collection of samples from the inlet and outlet of the Pontese shelter system. The samples were sent to the CNR-ISE laboratory in Pallanza.

JUNE 2016

A meeting was held with Dr. Gabriele Tartari from the CNR ecosystem research centre in Pallanza to define the sampling methods and the conservation techniques for the samples.  The reagents and sample bottles were collected.

MAY 2016

Contacts with the CNR ISE centre in Pallanza have been re-established to deliver the samples relating to ex-ante monitoring activities of action C.4 and future ones relating to actions D.3 and D.1. An ad hoc agreement between the ISE centre and the GPNP will be signed shortly.

Progress report of Phytodepuration action

The construction of the phytodepuration systems and accessory works was completed in mid September. In particular:

For the Nivolet:

  • A new slope stabilisation structure was constructed along the trail
  • 4 draining trenches were excavated
  • Pipes were laid and connected to the phytodepuration bed
  • A fence was set up around the phytodepuration bed (made of provisional structures so as to avoid possible winter damages)

For Pian delle Muande:

  • A  phytodepuration bed was set up
  • The new Pontese Imhoff septic tank has been constructed and connected to the system

The monitoring programs planned for these actions will get underway in the summer of 2016, since the works were completed when the mountain shelters were being closed and the livestock was being moved back to the valleys.

Progress report of the quality of high altitude aquatic enviroment

Work in progress and work completed as at 15/03/2015

• Design of the interventions and the bio-pedo-depuration systems: following the surveys carried out in the summer of 2013, two projects were drawn up, one for the Nivolet area and one for the Pontese refuge. The construction drawings have been approved and all the necessary authorisations and environmental impact assessment certificates have been obtained;

• The red tape procedures that will lead to the issuing of a call for tenders for these works are underway. Work will start in June-July 2015, as soon as ground and weather conditions permit it;

• Environmental monitoring. The monitoring of water bodies for the assessment of conditions prior to the interventions has been concluded.  The lower Nivolet lake is included in the ordinary monitoring processes carried out every year to assess the chemical-physical and biological quality of the water. In the area of the Pontese refuge, samples were collected from the Telecom lake waters in the course of the summer of 2014.
